I get it. You want it to be fast. Simple. Painless. You want a quick fix. Your eating disorder loves the sound of that.
It’s so common to crave instant results, to get frustrated when progress feels slow. That urge to hurry up and feel better? That’s not coming from a healthy place. That’s the same part of your brain that drove your food addiction. It’s the same place your disordered behaviors came from. That part of you is still trying to avoid discomfort. Avoid feelings. Avoid vulnerability.
You’ve heard me say this before—your eating disorder voice is closely related to Little Miss Perfectionist. She wants everything neat and tidy. She wants to crush goals, check boxes, and speed through recovery so she can get back to “normal” as quickly as possible. But let me remind you: that’s not how this works.
Healing isn’t linear. And it’s definitely not fast.
When you step into recovery—real recovery—you’re stepping into deep work. You’re choosing to stop numbing. You’re choosing to face the emotions you’ve buried under food for years. It’s not going to be easy. You will feel things you haven’t felt in a long time. You’ll grieve. You’ll stretch. You’ll grow.
But you don’t have to do it alone.
Whether it’s with a coach, a support group, or your recovery tribe—there is strength in having someone walk this path with you. You will get through the hard parts. But you’ve got to show up for the process, not just the outcome.
So as you move into this next phase of your journey, check your mindset. Are you trying to rush it? Are you secretly hoping for a shortcut?
Remind yourself: this is going to take time. You’re not broken—you’re healing. Slowly. Intentionally. On purpose.
And that’s exactly how it’s meant to be.
