Recovering from food addiction, binge eating, or compulsive eating isn’t just about willpower—it’s a journey through distinct stages of change. Each stage plays an important role in helping you break free from the cycle and move toward the food freedom you so desperately want.
Let’s look at these stages:
1. Pre-Contemplation
You might not even realize change is necessary yet. Maybe you still believe you just need the magic macros and willpower. Maybe you feel stuck or believe recovery isn’t actually possible. If this resonates, know that awareness is the first step toward transformation.
2. Contemplation
You’re starting to think, “Something has to change.” You may still feel unsure or scared, but you’re recognizing the problem. This stage is where hope starts to spark.
3. Preparation
You’re ready to take steps toward change. This might look like gathering resources, researching solutions, or joining a program (like my Food Freedom Tribe that includes my course) to build a foundation for success.
4. Action
This is where the real recovery work begins. You’re actively implementing tools and strategies—changing your mindset, adjusting your nutrition, and replacing destructive habits with healthier ones. Every small win here builds momentum.
5. Maintenance
Food addiction recovery is an ongoing process. Maintenance is about sustaining the changes you’ve made, while also being vigilant about danger zones and lapses. It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence.

Take a minute to reflect on your current stage. Recognizing where you are is key to moving forward. Remember, there’s no timeline or “right” way to progress—this is your personal journey.
