Everyone loves the idea of healing. They love the quotes, the hashtags, and he talk about “growth” and “change,” but when healing asks us to actually do the hard work most people tap out.
If you are someone who struggles with food addiction, binge eating, or using food to numb out… this truth hits a little differently:
Most people want comfort more than they want healing.
They want relief without responsibility, they want freedom without discomfort and they want change without changing anything. It’s not because they are weak, it’s because dysfunction feels like home, it’s what’s familiar.
Why Dysfunction Feels Safer Than Healing
When you’ve spent years, even decades, using food to self-soothe, escape, or fill an emotional void…
• The binge feels familiar
• The late-night raid feels predictable
• The guilt after eating feels normal
• The cycle feels… known
Your brain loves what is known even when it’s destroying us.
Meanwhile, healing feels like:
Saying no and goodbye to the foods you’ve used to cope
Feeling emotions instead of numbing them with drug foods
Sitting in discomfort without a “treat” to soften the edges
Healing threatens the patterns that kept us surviving, so of course, it feels terrifying, but guess what? Freedom usually does.
Healing Will Cost You Something
Here’s what food sobriety requires:
• No more blaming your metabolism or genetics
• No more pretending this is just about willpower
• No more calling binge foods “treats”
• No more comfort eating to avoid facing your feelings
• No more negotiating with the voice of sabotage
Healing will cost you:
Your comfort zone
Your coping mechanisms
The identity you built around the struggle
The fantasy that a “moderation plan” will magically stick one day
However, It will also give you something so much better: YOU.
The real you, the regulated you, the peaceful you and the version of you that isn’t controlled by emotional cravings anymore.
People Want Results, Not the Process
Everyone wants:
👉🏻The weight loss
👉🏻The confidence
👉🏻The new outfits
👉🏻The compliments
👉🏻 The energy
👉🏻The freedom
……Bbut not everyone wants:
💥 The detox/withdrawal from addictive foods
💥 The emotional work
💥 The personal responsibility
💥 The boundaries with food and people
💥 The discomfort of building new habits
I’ll say it plainly:
Healing exposes every excuse you’ve been hiding behind, so of course that may piss you off and make you feel vulnerable and defensive.
If You Feel Called Out… Good.
That means there’s something inside of you that knows:
👉🏻 You were made for more than this vicious exhausting cycle
👉🏻You are tired of starting over every Monday or every first of the month
👉🏻You’re done pretending this isn’t serious and ruining your life
👉🏻You’re craving peace not pizza
If you’ve been saying you want healing but keep choosing comfort and what’s familiar instead…
This is your moment to choose differently.
It won’t feel easy at first and healing usually feels like:
Grieving the version of you that survived but never lived fully
Sitting with emotions you’ve avoided for years
Trusting the plan long before the results show up
Please hear me:
Healing is worth the discomfort and you are worth healing. I know this first hand. I’m not just preaching from a pedestal. I’ve been there.
You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
Recovery is not a DIY project.
We heal better in a community with accountability, strategy, and support that doesn’t let you disappear into old habits.
If you’re ready to stop saying you want freedom and actually go get it…
