Swim In Your Own Lane

I have a habit of telling my clients to “swim in your own lane.“ But what do I mean by that?

I mean, stop putting so much care and concern into what other people are doing. What other people do should have no bearing on what YOU need to do.

I mean, put your time and energy and effort into what you need to do to get to your specific goals. Quit looking for shortcuts.

Laser focusing on what other people do is a distraction and can make you think that the grass is greener on the other side. But this type of thinking is just the voice of your eating disorder speaking.

Stay consistent and be patient to stick to a recovery program and path that you are on right now. We cannot change what we’re doing every time we see someone doing something differently and it seems to be working for them. There’s no quick fix - there’s only consistency and time.

Stop caring so much about what others think and definitely don’t be worried about what they’re going to say as they don’t have to live in your shoes.

We need to understand and remember that it’s okay for us to do things differently and do it the way we need to do even though other people may not agree. There’s nothing wrong with swimming in your own lane.

We do not need external validation or approval from other people to keep doing what we know in our heart is the right thing FOR US to do.

This journey is not a race. Stop putting a timeline on everything. Just put your head down, stay focused on doing the work of recovery and stay connected to your support group and get to work.

Always looking for shortcuts or the easy way is going to keep holding you back. Shortcuts, quick fixes, and magic pills lead to short term results. True progress that leads to results you can maintain needs a to be built on a solid foundation and IT TAKES TIME.

When you try to skip steps in an effort to make it less taxing on yourself it’s going to lead to a delay in your success, when if you would just put forth your best effort and be willing to do the work, you can avoid those setbacks and delays.

Constantly pursuing shortcuts leads to stress and burn out and then your voice of sabotage has you believing that you’re doing allllllll this work (that you really aren’t doing) and it’s not working so you may as well give up or switch it up. Doing the actual work is what’s going to lead to you having a lifetime of peace with food and that food freedom that only comes with food sobriety.

Taking shortcuts and following along with your favorite influencers who aren’t telling you the whole story is just going to keep you spinning your wheels and you’re going to waste your time and your money.

Shortcuts might give you some immediate gratification, but in the long run all you’re doing is cheating yourself. It takes time to heal and change so let go of the idea that you can turn it around overnight.

If you’re ready to do the work then go put in a pre application to have one of my January private coaching spots. I’ll review your application and if I think you’re a candidate for my program, I’ll email you with answers to your questions so that you can make an informed decision.
