Reasons You Might Not Be Making Progress

Let’s just be honest—if you’ve been spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere with your health, your mindset, or your relationship with food, there are likely some hard truths you need to face. And trust me, I say all this with love, not judgment. These are things I’ve seen over and over again with women who want to break free from food addiction, but keep falling into the same patterns.

If you’re feeling stuck, read through this list and see what hits. That sting you feel? That’s often where the truth lives.

1. You Aren’t Coachable

You say you want help. You pay for help. But then, the minute someone gives you direction, you resist it. You question it, argue with it, or try to mold it into what you think it should be instead of trusting the process.

I see this often—women who hire a coach but refuse to be coached. If you’re constantly pushing back or only following instructions halfway, you’re not going to get the results you’re looking for. You invest halfway you get halfway results. Coaching works when you allow yourself to be led. That requires trust, humility, and a willingness to be uncomfortable.

2. Your Body Isn’t in a State to Support Progress

Let me say this clearly: not all seasons are meant for pushing. Sometimes, your body is under too much stress, not sleeping enough, dealing with hormone imbalances, or just plain worn out. And yet, you’re still trying to force it into results mode.

Some goals require a focused, intense approach—but you can’t live there 24/7. That kind of imbalance will eventually backfire. You need to know when to go hard and when to pull back. Progress is a dance between effort and recovery.

3. Your Goals Don’t Align with Your Reality

Listen, I’m not here to tell you to lower your standards. But I am here to remind you to be honest with yourself about what’s realistic based on your current life, environment, and genetics. We all have limitations—some of them temporary, some of them permanent.

Your goal might be solid, but if your life is a chaotic mess, your schedule is packed, and your stress is through the roof, you’re not going to make the same kind of progress as someone with fewer variables. That doesn’t mean you give up—it means you adjust your expectations and your timeline.

4. You’re Not Consistent Long Enough

This one’s big. So many women start strong, full of motivation, and then two weeks in—they’re bored. They don’t feel like it. They find another “shiny object” to chase.

You can’t keep jumping from one thing to the next and expect results. Progress takes time. Sometimes it’s repetitive. Sometimes it’s not fun. But if you only show up when you feel like it, you’ll stay stuck in that same cycle.

Discipline beats motivation every single time.

5. You Let Emotions Run the Show

Emotions are powerful—and when you’re emotionally driven, it’s easy to get derailed. You might work hard, harder than most even, but if you only do the things you’re drawn to and avoid the uncomfortable stuff, you won’t reach your goals.

You need to learn to be objective. That might mean taking a step back and asking yourself, “What do I need right now, not just what do I want?” Or maybe it means listening to someone else who can give you that outside perspective you’re too emotionally close to see.

Here’s the truth:

Making real, lasting progress is messy. It requires honesty. It requires humility. It requires consistency and the willingness to do hard things even when you don’t feel like it.

If you’re stuck, don’t beat yourself up—but also don’t ignore the truth. Start getting honest about what’s really holding you back. Because once you do? That’s when things can truly change.
