Keeping an Emotional Food Journal

If achieving weight loss on your recovery journey is one of your goals, keeping a food journal that tracks your emotions may be a powerful tool for you.

1- It may help you spot habits you didn't realize you had

2- It can reveal how certain foods affect you physically and mentally

3- It will tell you why you are eating and help you recognize patterns of emotional eating

Keeping this journal and honestly evaluating your behaviors and responses to food may eventually help you lose weight because it will provide you with valuable information to help you break unhelpful patterns.

How to best use a food journal:

1- Write down what you eat and record the reason why. Here are some helpful suggestions on how to define your reason for eating:

(N) You ate for NOURISHMENT/HUNGER

(F) You ate for FUN

(M) You ate MINDLESSLY

(B) You BINGE ate

(C) You COMPULSIVELY ate
